It is a requirement of Surf Life Saving Australia that all patrolling members 18 years or over, and volunteers working in an official role with children, must hold a current Blue Card; Queensland’s ‘Working with children’ check. More details HERE.
If you do not have a current Blue Card (or need to renew):
Applying through the Blue Card Services Application Portal is a straightforward and efficient way to obtain or renew your blue card or exemption card:
- Step 1 Ensure you hold valid Qld Dept of Transport & Main Roads card (i.e. drivers license)
- Step 2 Register via Blue Card Services online and record your account number
- Currently linked valid card holders only: when registering online to renew and SLSQ is listed in your linked organisations continue to complete your renewal application online.
- Step 3 With your blue card account number/valid blue card or exemption card number handy, proceed to SLSQ Blue Card Organisation Link. Once submitted, SLSQ will link your account/card number – allow 24-48 hours.

- Step 4 After 24-48 hours, login to your Blue Card Services Application Portal to complete and submit your application
- Step 5 Blue Card Services will issue your card, SLSQ will enter blue card details in the system
- Step 6 Complete the Child Safety Modules in the eLearning section of your Members Hub. This will be done every three (3) years (every time you renew your Blue Card).
If you have any issues, you can refer to this Quick Reference Guide to Online Blue Card Submission to assist you with the process.
What if I already have a Blue Card?
If you already have a Blue Card, please complete this form to send the details to SLSQ to link to Palm Beach Qld SLSC: https://form.jotform.com/252079401130041
As a teacher/police officer, can I get an Exemption?
Yes, but you must apply for an Exemption Blue Card.
Registered teachers and police officers remain exempt from requiring a Blue Card as part of their professional duties. However, when providing services which fall outside of these duties, visit your Blue Card Portal and apply for an exemption Blue Card https://my.bluecard.qld.gov.au/login
Then asked to be linked to Palm Beach Qld SLSC using the same survey as above (https://form.jotform.com/252079401130041)
Now that I have my Blue Card, do I need to do anything else?
Yes please, as per step 6 noted earlier, there is a little bit of online training. The Child Safety Modules is required to be undertaken by every member who holds a Blue Card. The training is conducted online and only takes approximately 10-20 minutes.
How do I complete the training?
Login to your SLSA Members Hub, click the ‘Applications’ tab at the top of the screen and then select ‘e-Learning’. Tip: when you click eLearning for the first time this season from your Members Portal, you will be asked to log in again.
On the dashboard, you will either see a green tick or red cross in the ‘Membership Check:’ area.
If green, the course tile to the right should also be green, meaning you are accredited (no action required). If red, your Child Safety award is not current. Complete the course online by clicking ‘Child Safety Modules’ with the red icon (or the ‘Child Safety Modules’ course tile that is blue and white on the right-hand side).
