Key developments

  • 1990/91: Association split occurs with two separate boards, namely: The Board Of Lifesaving and The Board Of Surf Sports.
  • 1990/91: Club had discussions with council to relocate the club due to the repetitive loss of sand from the beach at 7th Avenue.
  • 1990/91: Alterations carried out to the interior of the clubhouse.
  • 1992/93: Club applies for a full Club Licence for Liquor & Gambling operations.
  • 1993/94: Palm Beach (Qld) SLSC Supporters Club became “Incorporated”.
  • 1995/96: Delay in clubhouse re-development plans.
  • 1996/97: All day patrol system trialled, major equipment upgrade.
  • 1997/98: construction of massive boulder wall to protect beach from erosion. Nippers clubhouse and female dorm was demolished to make way for new extensions.
  • 1997/98: Surf Sports policy implemented, clubhouse re-building nears completion.
  • 1999: Charles Maskiell, long time member and supporter of club, passed away in June.

Key events and accomplishments

  • 1990/91: Nippers gained State & National honours. Also saw a resurgence in IRB competitions.
  • 1990/91: Masters flew the flag high winning many medals.
  • 1992/93: Club hosted the Point Danger Branch annual dinner.
  • 1992/93: Introduced the “Pride Of Palm Beach” marathon.
  • 1992/93: Boat crews excelled in competition once again.
  • 1993/94: Maurie Webb won gold in the World Masters over 60 surf race in NZ.
  • 1993/94: Masters featured well in the State & National titles. A new surfboat was purchased.
  • 1994/95: Boat crews were successful in both State & National titles.
  • 1994/95: Awards were granted to several members by the club and also by the Association. Nippers continued to have vigorous membership & award programs.
  • 1995/96: First female boat crew formed.
  • 1996/97: A new surfboat was purchased (later known as “The Fossil”).
