How was the Club established?

In 1930, a group of lifesavers based in Brisbane decided to start a new club elsewhere and picked Palm Beach as the ideal spot. After approaching and getting the approval from the Point Danger Branch, they formed a club on that beach.
The first clubhouse was a tent on the sand hills behind the beach but it wasn’t long before members constructed a one-room shack with a landing and a patrol lookout tower.

Later extensions were added consisting of a dormitory, dressing room, first-aid room and a small verandah were built.

Key events and accomplishments

  • The clubs first Bronze Squad were awarded their Bronze Medallions on April 4th 1931.
  • In1934, Point Danger Branch gave approval for a name change to Palm Beach Lifesaving Club.
  • In 1935-36 season the first surf boat, the “Speedo”, was obtained from neighbouring club Burleigh Heads – Mowbray Park.
  • In 1939 a new surf boat was ordered at a cost 100 Pounds. An extension was added to house the craft.
